Discover Life in Atlanta
Atlanta is one of the largest and fastest-growing cities in the U.S.
Due to its position as a transportation and shipping hub, it’s also home
to major corporations such as Coca-Cola and Delta Airlines. Although it
was first settled in 1822, the region officially became "Atlanta" in
1847. Historic Atlanta is most famous for being burned to the ground
during the Civil War and later hosted the premiere of the movie Gone
with the Wind, which featured this tragic event.
Today, Atlanta is also a hub of culture, and the arts, but has a fun
side. It was the site of 1996 Summer Olympics and hosts the annual
DragonCon convention as well as numerous professional sports teams.
Many locals refer to it as “Hotlanta” due to its subtropical climate,
but it's actually cooler than many Southern cities because of its
higher elevation. The Atlanta lifestyle is a unique combination of
traditional Southern ideals and a fast-moving urban culture.
