How do I obtain a free credit report?
Request a free copy every year. There are three major nationwide consumer-reporting
companies: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. All three agencies are required to provide
consumers with a free copy of their credit report once per year at the consumer's request.
The three companies have set up a central web site to fulfill these requests -
www.AnnualCreditReport.com
Receive a free copy if you are denied credit.According to the Fair Credit
Reporting Act (FCRA) you’re entitled to a free report if a company denies you credit,
insurance, or employment. You must however, ask for your report within 60 days of
receiving notice of the action. The notice will give you the name, address, and phone
number of the consumer reporting company. At that point you may contact that company
for the information.
You’re also entitled to a free report in cases of fraud/identity theft.
