All About Nashville
The Middle Tennessee Region is an area that includes Nashville (the
state capital) plus nearby residential, industrial, and agricultural
areas. More than 1.2 million people call the rich green hills and valleys
of the Nashville area home.
The region is home to more than 20 institutions of higher
learning, including Vanderbilt University and Fisk University. The
undisputed home of country music, Nashville's Music Row area is the
central location of the corporate offices of entertainment industry
giants and recording studios of major labels.
Rapid economic growth thanks to aggressive, strategic regional
economic development is Mid-State's hallmark. Recognized by national
business publications for its "business friendly" environment,
the region has profited from the expansion of existing companies and
the influx of new firms, including Fortune 500 Magnatek and health care
giant Columbia/HCA.
The region also is home to auto manufacturing facilities for
Saturn and Nissan, as well as Bridgestone/Firestone USA Inc. and Primus
Automotive Financial Services. Other industries with corporate
headquarters in the Mid- State Region include Murray Ohio, Shoney's,
Textron Aerostructures, Ingram Industries, and Gaylord Entertainment Co.
The region's other nickname is "the buckle of the Bible belt"
for the many denominational headquarters and religious publishing
houses located here.
Real estate is fast-moving and competitively priced in the
Mid-State Region. Choices range from rural farms and riverside
hideaways to posh metropolitan neighborhoods and developments. The
region consistently heads the list of major American cities with low
costs of living. Tennessee also has no state income tax.
Moving goods, services and people is one of the Mid-State's
assets. The region is served by more than 14 major and commuter airlines
and is a major intermodal yard for Southeastern rail shipping. At the
confluence of I-65, I-24 and I-40, the area is particularly attractive
to distributors and manufactures who want to benefit from being within
one day's drive of 50% of the U.S. population.
While employers laud the strong work ethic of Mid-State
residents, locals know this area has more to offer than the old 9-to-5.
The region has many parks and playgrounds, plus 30,000 acres of inland

facilities for camping, swimming, and hiking.
