Broker

Broker is a classification of licensure overseen and issued by the various state Real Estate Commissions. Each state licensing commission has its own set of rules and requirements for broker candidates to be eligible to sit for the examination.

To become eligible for the examination, broker candidates:

  • Must have held an active license as an affiliate broker, whose title varies among each state's jurisdiction.
     
  • Must have successfully completed a certain number of classroom hours in real estate education and brokerage management, taken at a real estate commission approved school.
These licensing requirements may vary from state to state. For specific details, consult your state Real Estate Commission and ask about their licensing policy.

Once the broker candidate has successfully completed the examination and any other crtiteria established by the respective real estate commission, the candidate is entitled to receive a state specific broker's license and is hereafter referred to as broker. Managers of any real estate branch office must have secured the broker designation in order to become a manager of a real estate office.
