BRENTWOOD, TN., For the 8th consecutive year, Crye-Leike, REALTORS associates and employees in Middle Tennessee generously donated a record number of backpacks filled with school supplies to the children in Youth Village's care. This year the company provided 286 children being served by the agency across Middle Tennessee with backpacks and all the back to school supplies they need.

The record number of backpacks and supplies were presented to youngsters and representatives of Youth Villages at 2:00pm on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the Crye-Leike, REALTORS Middle Tennessee Regional Headquarters located at 5111 Maryland Way, Brentwood, Tennessee.

"We know from years past that the participation of our associates and employees helps to give these children a big boost in their self esteem and feel more comfortable with their classmates at the start of a new school year," said Harold Crye, Crye-Leike, REALTORS Cofounder & CEO. "We want these children to know that they are important and special in our community and our people are to be congratulated for their support as well."

Youth Villages helps emotionally and behaviorally troubled children rebuild their lives and fulfill their dreams of living in a safe and nurturing environment. Its mission is to help children and families live successfully. The children they serve live in three group homes in Nashville, with foster families, receive in-home counseling with their families and learn how to live independently.

"The support that Crye-Leike gives us every year for Backpack Heroes allows us the chance to "level the playing field" for our children," said Greg Schott, Youth Villages Development Manager. "The brand new backpacks and school supplies help them to feel better about themselves and more a part of their peer group."

From late July until early August Crye-Leike Associates and Employees across the Middle Tennessee region went shopping for and/or collected backpacks and school supplies. The goal this year was for every Crye-Leike, REALTORS office in the Middle Tennessee region to fill 20 backpacks for girls and boys from elementary to high school age. In 2008 the company proudly exceeded its goal.

"The Youth Villages mission, to help children and families live successfully is a mission that's at the heart of all Crye-Leike, REALTORS associates and employees," said Crye. "Our company's regional campaign has a goal of serving as many Middle Tennessee children as possible with backpacks and school supplies and I'm thrilled we delivered on our promise. And I want to personally thank every associate and employee for being Backpack Heroes."

Many of the children served by Youth Villages have had to move from place to place and have very little to call their own. More than 90% of them live well below the poverty line and most cannot afford a backpack or school supplies on their own. This project gives them the chance to feel like every other kid in getting something brand new that they can truly call their own.
