Greater Atlanta Realtors Are Taking Advantage Of FREE Continuing Education
CUMMING, GA., Every 2nd Thursday of the month Greater Atlanta Realtors have the opportunity to receive FREE education to keep their real estate license with the state current. The no-cost curriculum comes courtesy of Crye-Leike, REALTORS. The company has rolled-out a once-a-month Continuing Education (CE) Credit Class that focuses on the basics of buying and selling real estate.
"Every agent needs these continuing education credits to keep their license in good standing," said Caroline Rich, Crye-Leike Recruiting Manager. "They hate to pay for them, especially now and it's awesome that they can attend one of our programs and receive the credit they need for free."
More than two dozen area Realtors attended the free course offered in August which focused on what agents need to know when placing properties for sale on the Atlanta Multiple Listing Service (FMLS). In September the 2nd Thursday class is dedicated to Home Inspections.
"The benefits are many," said Rich. "It keeps agents abreast of the best tools to use in the business, the best vendors, best mortgage companies and just better ways to help them conduct their business."
Crye-Leike has dubbed its educational program the "Knowledge Is Power" courses for Realtors. And Crye-Leike's Recruiting Manager Rich likes to stress the trickle-down benefit to buyers and sellers.
"When Realtors have more knowledge they can offer better service and demonstrate their value to clients," said Rich. "We're all aware of the economy and we have an obligation to keep agents up to date on what's important in this ever-changing real estate market."
Here's a look at the upcoming schedule of FREE THURSDAYS "Knowledge is Power" courses.

Crye-Leike, REALTORS Affiliate Broker Teresa Lampley Scouts Locations Around Fairview For Award Winning Nashville Filmmaker Elvis Wilson
FAIRVIEW, TN., - Location, location, location is the mantra for the success of all things business and real estate. And it appears the City of Fairview was recently "The Location" for the latest project by Award Winning Nashville filmmaker Elvis Wilson. He and his production crew were recently there at work on a new short film - and Elvis enlisted Crye-Leike's Teresa Lampley to help him scout locations for the shoot.
"I was fortunate to meet Elvis Wilson along with some of his cast and crew - and spend some time with him in his element," said Teresa. "It was very exciting to play a small part in his endeavor."
Teresa says the filmmaker wanted to produce his next short film "Don't Wake The Baby" on location in Middle Tennessee. She says Elvis enlisted her help to find just the right properties and settings as the backdrop for his vision and story.
"We needed a central location, close to Nashville, but with its own color and culture," said Elvis. "Because of our low budget we needed to have a place we didn't have to reinvent in order to work as our primary set."
Teresa gave Elvis the grand tour of Fairview - taking him through several locations she thought would work as great backdrops and settings for his short film.
"Teresa is great," said Elvis. "We weren't buying a house but I can only imagine how helpful she would be for someone looking for a home in this tough real estate and mortgage climate."
"Don't Wake The Baby" is a short/serious drama being produced by Nashville Filmmaker Elvis Wilson for the "film festival" circuit. It's based on the story of a military wife who loses her husband in the Iraq War - and she is forced to make some tough decisions in order to support her children.
While Teresa looks forward to watching the finished film? she is very thankful for the opportunity to put her skills as a Realtor to work in a unique way - to help her new filmmaking friend.
"It was a real pleasure to work with Elvis Wilson and everyone involved with the project," said Teresa. "Elvis and I became friends and I feel should his need for real estate come along one day - I will have earned his trust as a client."
In addition to his work on short films, Elvis is also a screenwriter who wrote and produced the award-winning documentary "Being Lincoln-Men With Hats." To find out more go to http://www.beinglincoln.com.

Crye-Leike, REALTORS Congratulates Arkansas Agent Cheryl Culp Recognized For Internet Marketing Excellence by REALTOR.com
FAYETTEVILLE, AR., - Crye-Leike, REALTORS congratulates Agent Cheryl Culp on being recognized by REALTOR.com for Internet Marketing Excellence with the "Real Estate Online Marketing Award of Excellence." Cheryl is a Sales Agent with Crye-Leike based out of the company's branch office in Fayetteville, Arkansas, located at 1280 East Stearns Street.
"While it's certainly an honor to receive this award, I think ultimately it would be a disservice not to make REALTOR.com? and the Internet part of your standard home marketing plan," said Cheryl. "Some day soon most agents will see it as a must have requirement instead of something special. We're already seeing that change."
Using simple efforts like having more photos displayed, crafting better descriptions or adding a full motion video are techniques Cheryl employs to make a home stand out from competing properties.
"My sellers really appreciate how I bring more attention to the unique selling attributes of their home and ultimately help attract more qualified buyers," said Cheryl. "Buyers are also appreciative of a well presented home that has a better description and more ways to learn about the property before arranging an appointment."
Realtor.com National Speaker Joe Sesso recently presented Cheryl with her award at a real estate marketing and technology seminar. The meeting's focus was aimed at teaching Realtors the cutting-edge techniques for leveraging the Internet and technology in real estate marketing.
"The extra steps agents like Cheryl are taking on behalf of their clients is the reason we thought it worthwhile to call out the effort we have seen these agents make online and to recognize them for providing these added value services," said Joe Sesso, REALTOR.com National Speaker.
Cheryl is a member of the Metro Area Board of Realtors (MABR) and was recently recognized as the board's 2008 Rookie Realtor of the Year. She is a member of the Arkansas Realtors Association (ARA) and the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
With the ARA in 2007 Cheryl was appointed to serve on the Equal Opportunity Committee and with MABR she serves on the Education Committee, Project Realtor Restore and Special Olympics Committee. In 2008, Cheryl received her At Home With Diversity certification from the National Association of Realtors (NAR), a course that addresses issues of diversity, fair housing and cultural differences.
Cheryl is a licensed Sales Agent in Arkansas, assisting buyers and sellers in and around Washington and Benton Counties. She is a Certified Relocation Associate (CRA) with Crye-Leike, REALTORS specializing in all types of residential real estate sales.
In addition to her involvement in various real estate related associations, Cheryl is an active member of the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce. This past Christmas in support of the United Way she helped lead an effort at the Crye-Leike Fayetteville office that provided a brighter Christmas for 16 children and four families in need at the Children's House by giving them gifts and items they requested on a Christmas wish list.
Prior to obtaining her real estate license Cheryl was employed for eleven years as a Medical Billing Supervisor at St. Mary's Hospital.

"As Sales Manager, my goal is to recruit quality agents that conduct business with integrity - always making the Golden Rule the guide," said Joan. "I'm interested in agents who did $1.5-million or greater in annual sales in 2008 as well as some newly licensed agents. I will share my years of experience and any insight into today's market to help each agent be successful in their business plan."
Joan started in the real estate business as an assistant, learning the back-end of the business for two top producing Realtors before striking-out on her own. You could say the business has been in Joan's blood since birth given that her father was a general contractor. She has been in homes being renovated since she was a small child and has always loved seeing people's dream come to fruition.
"I wanted to be a Realtor when I was 13 but I think the negative stereotypes kept me from the business," said Joan. "Finally at age 34 I realized I needed a career I could love so I pursued my real estate license."
Joan is a licensed Realtor in Georgia assisting buyers and sellers in and around Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Clayton and Cobb counties. She specializes in all types of residential real estate sales with a focus on first-time homebuyers and sellers.
"I have represented builders, investors, banks, buyers and sellers? and I have sold plenty of new homes, foreclosures and re-sales as well as a few land and commercial sales," said Joan. "I love to help people get a great value while finding a home to express themselves and live their lives. My clients feel very comfortable with me and appreciate the care I take in considering their needs and negotiating with their best interest in the forefront."

Joan has been an annual recipient of the Multi-Million Dollar Club Award since 2001 and is frequently recognized as one of the region's top sales producers in local news and Realtor trade publications.
"I like to get to know each agent and their business model, so I know what drives them and how best to assist them in meeting their goals and creating smooth transactions with repeat clients who also refer business," said Joan. "If we take ourselves and client emotions out of the deal and break it down into basic components we can be the catalyst for positive experiences."
Joan is a Buffalo, New York native who has lived in the Atlanta region since 1993 and currently resides in East Point. She has a BA in English with a minor in Labor Relations from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, New York. Crye-Leike, REALTORS Announces the Retirement of Hugh Huffaker
CHATTANOOGA, TN., Crye-Leike, REALTORS announces the retirement of Chattanooga real estate legend and visionary Hugh Huffaker from the company. A retirement reception and farewell party for Hugh was held, Wednesday, March 11, 2009 2:00pm - 3:30pm at the company's Downtown Chattanooga branch office located at 1201 Market Street.
"In Hugh's 55 years in the real estate industry, he has been one of the most reputable people in the business," said Jack Webb, Crye-Leike Broker and former President of Huffaker Realtors. "He not only was very successful in the real estate business but also in the Chattanooga community. Hugh built his reputation by caring for the needs of others and had a tremendous talent for building positive relationships."
Mr. Hugh Huffaker has served as President of the Chattanooga Association of Realtors, Chairman of the of McCallie School Board Of Trustees, and served on other numerous boards throughout his career, said Webb.
Hugh and his brother Bob Huffaker started out working for Ferger Brothers in the 1950's, where they sold both real estate and insurance. Hugh continued selling real estate for Ferger Brothers until he founded Huffaker, Inc. Realtors in 1982. His company grew to become the largest independent real estate company in metro Chattanooga with 100 agents and offices in East Brainerd, Signal Mountain, Downtown, and Hixson.
"When Hugh first considered starting to slow down a little, we decided to approach Harold Crye of Crye-Leike, Realtors which had grown tremendously at that time in Memphis and Nashville," said Webb. "In December 1997, Crye-Leike acquired Huffaker's four offices and nearly all of the company's 100 agents stayed on board."
Hugh remained active with Crye-Leike in both a consulting and sales role until now. Since Crye-Leike, REALTORS bought Huffaker Inc. Realtors more than 10 years ago, the company has grown into 10 existing residential sales offices. In 2008 Crye-Leike posted a gross sales volume of $505-million dollars with more than 3,100 homes sold in the region making the company #1 in the region in both volume and homes sold for the first time.
"The trustworthy real estate company Hugh Huffaker established provided Crye-Leike with a solid foundation to enter the Chattanooga market," said Crye-Leike CEO and Cofounder Harold Crye. "Hugh has been a remarkable asset to Crye-Leike and his presence in the company will be deeply missed by many people. We all wish him a very happy retirement."
Hugh's immense fascination with real estate led him to obtaining his license and building one of the largest and most successful companies for the industry in Chattanooga.
"Mr. Hugh as he is affectionately called, is a beloved member of the real estate community in Chattanooga," said Barbara Feagans, Crye-Leike Chattanooga Marketing Director. "His talents and achievements in real estate paved the way for Crye-Leike to thrive in Chattanooga."
Crye-Leike came into Chattanooga with high hopes of being #1 in the market. Huffaker's well known company helped Crye-Leike meet that goal in a short period of time.
"Our goal many years ago and still today is to be Tennessee's real estate company so that when anyone is moving in or to the state, they will think of us," said Crye. "Hugh Huffaker helped Crye-Leike make great strides in reaching that goal and becoming #1 in Chattanooga."

Crye-Leike Realtors co-founder to be honored as Master Entrepreneur - Memphis Commercial Appeal
By James Dowd, Memphis Commercial Appeal
Tuesday, March 17, 2009
Forty years ago, fresh out of the Army and contemplating what to do with the rest of his life, Harold Crye surveyed the occupational landscape of his hometown of Osceola, Ark., and decided to pull up stakes.
It wasn't that the 25-year-old Crye didn't love the place where he'd grown up, he just figured there were opportunities elsewhere that he'd like to explore.
That search led Crye to Memphis, where he eventually founded Crye-Leike Realtors with friend and business partner Dick Leike. The firm grew into one of the nation's largest real estate brokerage firms, and now Crye is being recognized for his efforts by the Society of Entrepreneurs.
Crye will be honored as a "Master Entrepreneur" at the organization's annual gala on April 18. The SOE president, Mike Bruns, praised Crye's contributions to the business community.
"Harold exemplifies the word 'entrepreneur' by the way he founded and expanded his business," said Bruns, founder and president of Comtrak Logistics. "He's had the fortitude and the smarts and the hard work ethic to be a success. He's a brilliant example of entrepreneurship for all of us."
Crye was bitten by the entrepreneurial bug while working a day job as a management trainee at Container Corp. of America, earning $700 a month.
After taking real estate courses at night at Memphis State University, Crye spent his spare time working in the housing market and managed to sell his first property for $35,000.
The commission from that sale equaled Crye's monthly take-home pay from CCA and convinced him that the time was right to make a move.
"I took a job at Sterling Company as sales manager and worked to get my broker's license," Crye said. "Then I met Dick Leike and we talked a lot about it and finally decided that we could make a go of it. We started our own company and within a month we had 20 agents."
During the past three decades, Crye-Leike has experienced considerable growth. The firm employs 600 staffers and has more than 3,500 independent contractors serving as sales agents. Last year, the company -- with offices in 65 counties in eight states -- reported sales volume of more than $4 billion.
That level of success made Crye a natural choice for the SOE award, said Bob Buckman, who served on the selection committee.
"I have always admired his ability as an entrepreneur. He took a simple concept and expanded it far beyond the normal with a business strategy that has been very successful," said Buckman, retired chairman and chief executive officer of Buckman Laboratories. "Today, Crye-Leike is one of the top ten real estate companies in the nation, and to me, that's the essence of entrepreneurship and Harold is well deserving of the title Master Entrepreneur."
Jeff Webb, chairman of the selection committee, agreed.
"When you look at this particular award, it's imperative that it go to someone whose business activity has withstood the test of time," said Webb, chairman and chief executive officer of Varsity Brands. "When you look at the roots of Harold's company, he started small and expanded from one office to become a regional presence. He adapted and evolved, and his business model is a great success story."

Crye-Leike, REALTORS Congratulates Agent Tracey D. Lenfant on being chosen as the "Volunteer of the Year" for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation?s Tennessee Chapter
SYMRNA TN., - Crye-Leike, Realtors is proud to announce Tracey D. Lenfant, sales associate for the company's Smyrna branch office, was named ?Volunteer of the Year' for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Tennessee Chapter. Lenfant was honored by the Community Health Charities (CHC) of Tennessee at the annual Champions in Health Award Celebration held on February 3rd, 2009 at The Factory in Franklin.
"I served as the 2008 Rutherford County Great Strides Chair for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF)," said Lenfant. "With the help of families, friends, and local business owners we raised approximately $57,000, an increase of almost $28,000 from the previous year!"
Lenfant's position as the Rutherford County Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Chair enabled her to tell her family's story of cystic fibrosis and raise money to fund research for the horrible disease.
"My son, Tate Lenfant, suffers from Cystic Fibrosis. He is the reason and personal drive behind my volunteer efforts," said Lenfant. "Despite his illness, pain and constant regiment of medications, Tate possesses and extraordinary outlook on life. Even at his young age of 15, his character is one to be admired. He is a true blessing from God!"
Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited, life-threatening disease that affects approximately 30,000 children and young adults in the United States. Cystic Fibrosis affects the lungs and digestive systems causing recurrent and often fatal pneumonia, as well as poor weight gain.
Research is the key to finding a cure or control for cystic fibrosis. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) has invested hundreds of millions of dollars to fund drug discovery and development and improve the quality of life for those with the disease.
"Significant progress has been made, but there is still much research that needs to be done to enhance the lives of those suffering from the disease," said Lenfant. "When the foundation was established in 1955, children with Cystic Fibrosis were not expected to live long enough to attend elementary school. Due in large part to the CF Foundation's aggressive investments in innovative research and comprehensive care, the predicted median survival age for people with this disease is now more than 37 years."
Lenfant plans to continue raising money to fund research and help people like her son Tate suffering from the disease. She will serve as the Rutherford County Great Strides Chair for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation again in 2009.
"The research that has been done for Cystic Fibrosis has helped extend and enrich the quality of life for people suffering with disease," said Lenfant. "All the research requires money and fundraising can help. I plan to continue bringing awareness about Cystic Fibrosis and find ways to raise even more money in 2009."
Lenfant is a licensed Realtor with Crye-Leike's Smyrna branch office working with buyers and sellers in Rutherford, Wilson, Williamson and Maury counties. She specializes in residential real estate focusing on first-time homebuyers and relocation. Lenfant has her professional real estate designation as an Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR). She is a member of the Greater Nashville Association of Realtors (GNAR), the Tennessee Association of Realtors (TAR) and the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
"My son Tate must be hospitalized several times per year, so I made a promise to him and myself years ago that we would never be apart during those hospital stays. This promise led me into the career of real estate," said Lenfant. "Due to my own life experiences, I am able to empathize with my clients during the stresses of home buying and help them to see the bright side all in the same moment."

FAYETTEVILLE, AR., - Crye-Leike, REALTORS is proud to announce Broker Associate Landra Bench has earned both her Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) and Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES) designations. She is a Realtor in the company's Fayetteville, Arkansas branch office located at 1280 East Stearns Street.
"I am so excited about obtaining these two designations," said Landra. "It's important in today's market that we as agents continue our education and earn designations in order to help our clients navigate through this unchartered territory. We are in a situation we've never experienced before and it is our responsibility to have as much knowledge as possible to share with our clients so they can make the decision that's best for them."
The CRS is a prestigious designation awarded to sales associates. Realtors who receive the CRS have completed advanced courses and have demonstrated professional expertise in the field of residential real estate and have a proven track record of sales transactions that are required to earn the designation.
Landra joins more than 16,000 real estate professionals in North America who have earned the SRES designation, having completed a comprehensive course in understanding the needs, considerations and goals of real estate buyers and sellers age 55 and older.
"I'm especially proud and excited to have obtained my SRES designation," said Landra. "For me, working with buyers and sellers who are 55 years or older is something I enjoy immensely. Although it's my job to educate them with what's going on in the real estate market, they always educate me in other areas of life. It is very rewarding and an honor to work for them."
Landra is a licensed Realtor in Arkansas assisting buyers and sellers in and around Benton, Washington and Madison counties. She is an Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR) specializing in all types of residential real estate sales with a focus on first-time homebuyers, relocation, new home construction, condominiums and townhomes.
"Buying and selling a home can be an overwhelming process and I enjoy breaking it down for people and walking them through the process," said Landra. "I'm looking ahead in 2009 and I know by advancing my knowledge I'll be able to share what I learn and my experience with my clients who will benefit from the value I bring to the process."
Landra lives in Fayetteville and moved her business to Crye-Leike from the Harris McHaney firm where she was for four years. Landra is a member of the Metro Area Board of Realtors (MABR) and National Association of Realtors (NAR). With MABR she serves as a member of the Project Realtor Restore committee.
