Crye-Leike in Cordova to Hold Car Wash to Benefit MIFA & Storm Victims
Memphis, Tenn. - Realtors from Crye-Leike's Cordova branch office are donating their time and sweat labor for an upcoming benefit car wash to raise cash donations for the Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association (MIFA) in support of the working poor devastated by the recent Memphis storm that has paralyzed the city for the past two weeks. The car wash fund-raiser is slated for Sat., August 16, 2003, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"The most immediate needs of our community, which has resulted from the storm, is providing financial assistance to the hourly employees who have had their jobs suspended because there has been no power to operate a business, or they couldn't report to work due to the storm damage," said Bert Kelly, director of public relations for MIFA. "Cash donations to MIFA will help these individuals, who live from paycheck to paycheck, pay their bills, such as rent payments."
The car wash will be held in the parking lot of Crye-Leike's Cordova branch, located at 894 Germantown Parkway, in Cordova. Chairing the event is Jeanie Costa and Leslie Hillard, along with Crye-Leike committee members: Trey Hogue, Mitch Goldberg, Carol Ann Burns, David Ralph and Irv White.
"Our real estate office started out with the free car wash idea as a way to show the community our appreciation for their support and for our belief that Cordova is a great place to live," says Costa. "When the storm happened, we changed our focus to have the free car wash but with donations being accepted to support MIFA because MIFA knows how to put the monies we collect to the best use for the storm victims."
For details on the car wash, call Crye-Leike, Realtors in Cordova at 901/756-8100.

Crye-Leike Teams with American Red Cross to Replenish Blood Supply
Nashville, Tenn. - When the American Red Cross issued a plea to donate blood last February to replenish the city's quarantined blood supply, Crye-Leike of Nashville, Inc. was inspired to organize their first company blood drive in March.
Crye-Leike's efforts proved worthwhile and exceeded its expectations, says Joyce Friedman, Crye-Leike's public relations director. "The American Red Cross issued a goal of 60 pints for our company, based on our employee size. We collected 78 pints of blood, with 22 from first-time donors; not so bad for our first time."
"The American Red Cross made it very easy to donate by providing us with simple directions to follow in organizing a corporate blood drive. The whole donor process ran very smoothly with no interruptions during a normal business day at our corporate offices."
If you are a business organizing a blood drive for the first time, the American Red Cross asks that the business identify a minimum of 45 volunteer blood donors before requesting a blood drive. The American Red Cross utilizes a mobile blood unit that is self contained and is parked in front of the business sponsoring the drive.
With the summer upon us, the American Red Cross is now appealing to businesses which have organized blood drives before, says Drue Hackney, donor recruitment representative of the Tennessee Valley Blood Services Region (TVR). "The local inventory historically seems to drop during the summer months because people are more focused on enjoying the summer than giving blood. We are encouraging businesses who have held blood drives in the past to hold another one in June and we would like to have new businesses come on board, too."
Branch offices of Crye-Leike, Realtors are continuing to hold blood drives. The most recent one is planned for Wilson County at its Mt. Juliet branch office, located at 1285 North Mt. Juliet Road, on May 13, 2003, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. To volunteer to donate, please call Barbara Parrish at 615/754-8999.
Crye-Leike's Franklin-Cool Springs branch office, located at 206A Cool Springs Blvd., also is planning a blood drive for Williamson County in June. To volunteer to donate, please call coordinator Kathy Allen at 615/771-6620.
For further information on organizing a company blood drive, please contact your local American Red Cross or Drue Hackney at 615/330-6011.

Crye-Leike, Realtors Expands Its Blood Drive into Clarksville Community
Nashville, Tenn. - Crye-Leike, Realtors has expanded its community blood drive into Clarksville to compliment the company's blood drive in Nashville on March 6, 2003, an effort that now will involve over 125 blood donors.
Clarksville's community blood drive is scheduled for Mon., March 10, 2003 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Crye-Leike's Clarksville St. Bethlehem branch office, located at 2512 Wilma Rudolph Blvd. in Clarksville.
Knowing that the blood supply at the local Red Cross is in dire straits, Crye-Leike, Realtors has secured donor commitments from over 50 Crye-Leike sales associates, staff and members of the Clarksville community who will join in the effort to replenish the region's blood supply. Crye-Leike's Nashville initiative has attracted over 75 blood donors.
Tennessee Valley Blood Services Region (TVR) is the second Red Cross Region to have put collected blood in quarantine because of a white particulate found in bags of blood products. Test results to determine the nature of the particulate are pending, but early results show it to be non-infectious.
The quarantine required the TVR to import 1,400 units from other Red Cross regions to meet immediate patient needs. Blood donations from the residents of the region are needed urgently to replenish the local inventory, says Patricia A. Callicoat, chief executive officer of the TVR. "Everyone should know that a constant supply is critical," said Callicoat.
"We understand that in any emergency appeal for blood, it usually attracts the Red Cross' regular donors, then six weeks later they are short again," says Joyce Friedman, public relations director for Crye-Leike. "We felt it important to participate as a company because there is strength in numbers in addressing the immediate needs of our community who our agents serve every day. We hope that other businesses will join us in holding similar blood drives in their places of business."
The Red Cross is now appealing to people who haven't considered giving blood before. "It's time for the majority of our population to realize that they ?can' give blood and they must to save the lives of the patients in our hospitals," said Callicoat. "Blood cannot be manufactured; it has to come from a healthy volunteer donor."
To be eligible, blood donors must be healthy, at least 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and must not have given whole blood in the last 56 days. There is no upper age limit for blood donation.
For questions about eligibility to give blood, please call 615/327-8571, or visit the Red Cross Web site at www.redcross.org/tn/nashvilleblood.

The mobile unit will be stationed at Crye-Leike, Realtors on Thurs, March 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 5111 Maryland Way in Brentwood which is located on the corner of Ward Circle and Maryland Way and one-half block west of the YMCA Maryland Farms.
For questions about eligibility to give blood, please call 327-8571, or visit the Red Cross Web site at www.redcross.org/tn/nashvilleblood.

Crye-Leike recently announced at its January annual meeting that a total of $28,780 was raised for Youth Villages from its 21st annual Campaign for Children.
Crye-Leike's Campaign for Children is an in-house fund-raiser held each December during the holiday season among its sales associates and corporate staff in the greater metropolitan areas of Memphis and Nashville. Those areas include Crye-Leike branch offices in Davidson, Fayette, Grundy, Maury, Montgomery, Robertson, Rutherford, Shelby, Sumner, Williamson and Wilson counties in Tennessee; Crittendon County in Arkansas; and DeSoto County in Mississippi.
Monies collected during Crye-Leike's Campaign for Children were used to purchase holiday gifts for the children of Youth Villages and to support its mentoring program throughout the year.
Since 1981, Crye-Leike, Realtors has raised in excess of $291,000 for Youth Villages. All proceeds raised are designated toward the Chris Crye Fund, in memory of real estate broker Chris Crye, an active volunteer and supporter of Youth Villages and son of Crye-Leike co-founder and CEO who experienced an untimely death in 1998.
Youth Villages (www.youthvillages.org) offers help and hope to more than 2,500 troubled children and their families each year through a continuum of care that ensures treatment in the most effective, least restrictive environment. Services include: home-based counseling, therapeutic foster care and adoption services, residential treatment, community-based programs and transitional living services.
Today, more than 900 counselors, teachers and skilled support staff provide Youth Villages' services from offices in 15 cities throughout Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama and Texas.

Boy Scouts Promote Flag Book, sponsored by Crye-Leike, to Make Every Day Flag Day
Nashville, Tenn. - During the month of February, you may have a Cub Scout or Boy Scout knocking at your door to give you a free copy of the Boy Scouts of America's newly published, The Flag Book. Their mission is not to solicit funds but to conduct "a good turn," or good deed as part of a nationwide Boy Scout public service initiative.
The booklet offers helpful tips on the correct and proper ways to honor the American flag.
"Since the tragedies of 9-11, America has seen a rebirth of patriotism," said U.S. Representative Jim Cooper who is endorsing the flag booklet.
"Americans have sought different ways to publicly express a wide range of emotions as well as support for one another and our country after that difficult time," said Rep. Cooper. "One of the most popular methods of showing support has been displaying the flag of the United States of America. The Boy Scouts are providing an invaluable service to this nation by educating the public on the proper display and care of the American flag, the true symbol of freedom on which our nation was founded."
Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of the Boy Scouts of America - Middle Tennessee Council will be distributing over 100,000 copies of The Flag Book to Middle Tennessee residents in 37 counties during the month of February, made possible through a corporate sponsorship by Crye-Leike, Realtors and its chief executive officer Harold E. Crye. Cyre is a long-time supporter and volunteer of the Boy Scouts who is the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to youth from the Chickasaw Council and National Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
"With National Flag Day being observed only on one day, we at Crye-Leike felt sponsorship of The Flag Book would help raise awareness and instill in Americans that they should ?make every day Flag Day,' " said Crye who served as president of the Chickasaw Council Boy Scouts of America in 1991. "Crye-Leike salutes the Boy Scouts for their public service efforts in bringing home the message."
The first national observance of Flag Day took place on June 14, 1877, 100 years after the United States flag was adopted by the Continental Congress, according to the National Flag Day Foundation. President Woodrow Wilson officially established Flag Day in 1916 and President Harry Truman signed an Act of Congress in 1949 designating every June 14 as National Flag Day.
The Boy Scouts' 16-page booklet provides a colorful demonstration on the correct and proper ways to honor the flag, to fly the flag as well as to present and display the flag. Such pointers include:
? When displaying the American flag on a stage or platform, the national flag should be to the speaker's right with any other flag on the speaker's left.
? When wearing American flag lapel pins, they should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.
? When a patriotic effect is desired, the American flag may be displayed 24 hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.
? When the national flag is worn beyond repair, burn it thoroughly and completely on a modest, but blazing fire. This should be done in a simple manner with dignity and respect. Be sure the flag is reduced to ashes unrecognizable as a former flag.
Promoting patriotism is not new to Crye-Leike. "Our sales associates have been incorporating American flags into their advertising and marketing efforts since the company was founded 25 years ago," said Joyce Friedman, public relations director of Crye-Leike.
"Our sales associates distribute thousands of American flags to their clients or to the communities they serve during all the patriotic holidays, like Independence Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day," said Friedman. " However, with the nation's post- Sept. 11 surge in patriotism, our company did notice a significant increase of over 50,000 flags distributed by our agents this past year.
The Boy Scouts' distribution of the flag book, coupled with Crye-Leike's use of American flags, might help raise awareness of National Flag Day, a holiday that is largely unrecognized, according to shopping mall owners/operator The Macerich Co. of Santa Monica, Calif. A Macerich survey last of 4,000 shoppers in 2000 found only a third of them knew that Flag Day is observed annually on June 14.
"Our nation has made an about-face from desensitizing the public in the commercial use of the American flag in advertising to patriotism now being in vogue again," said Ron Turpin, director of field services for the Middle Tennessee Council, Boy Scouts of America.
"Truly, America has come back to the principles scouting never left," "As a scouting organization, it is our responsibility to keep patriotism alive."
If the Boy Scouts missed distributing The Flag Book in your neighborhood, you can view a copy by visiting the Boy Scouts of America's Web site at www.mtcbsa.org. To further encourage duplication and distribution of The Flag Book by the public and Corporate America, the Boy Scouts are extending permission to link to their site or copyright privileges to access the original document where it can be downloaded and copied for your individual or company's distribution needs.
The Middle Tennessee Council of the Boy Scouts of America serves over 45,000 youth in the Middle Tennessee Region. The mission of the Middle Tennessee Council is to foster the character development, citizenship training and physical fitness of young people through an emphasis on outdoor program experiences, and in ways to prepare them to be responsible, contributing members of society over their lifetime by instilling values based upon those found in the Scout Oath and Law.

Crye-Leike Golf Tournament Raises $12,000 for Wings Cancer Foundation
Memphis, Tenn. - The Eighth Annual Sherry Park Memorial Golf Scramble, sponsored by Crye-Leike, Realtors and the Hank Park Trust, recently presented a check to the Wings Cancer Foundation in Memphis, Tenn. for $12,000. To date, the Sherry Park Memorial Golf Scramble has raised over $ 63,000 for the Wings Cancer Foundation. Lucy Doane and Dan Quinley of Crye-Leike's Germantown-Poplar branch office served as this year's co-chairmen.
The golf tournament was held on September 19, 2002 at the Memphis National Golf Course on Houston Levee Road in Collierville, Tenn. Next year's tournament is planned for September 11, 2003 at the same golf course.
Founded in 1996, the Wings Cancer Foundation is committed to providing hope, education, research and support to anyone touched by cancer. The foundation offers services such as a lending library, a labyrinth, nutritional counseling, exercise, yoga and Tai Chi classes, crisis intervention and support groups. Crye-Leike, Realtors and the Hank Park Trust designated 75 percent of the funds toward cancer research and the remaining 25 percent to the foundation's support services.
"Thanks to generous donations like this, Wings is able to provide many support programs and services free of charge to anyone in the community touched by cancer," said Sandy Patterson, executive director of the Wings Cancer Foundation.
The late Sherry Park was managing broker of Crye-Leike's Germantown branch office for nine years, which was established in 1986. When Sherry was diagnosed with cancer, she was instrumental in organizing Crye-Leike's first golf tournament in 1994 to benefit cancer research. Many of the services provided by the Wings Cancer Foundation are located within the West Clinic where Parks received her cancer treatment under the care of Dr. Lee Schwartzberg. Upon her death in 1995, sales associates of Crye-Leike's Germantown branch office continued the golf tournament by naming it in her memory with proceeds benefiting the Wings Cancer Foundation.
At this year's check presentation, Dr. Schwartzberg praised Sherry for her determination and indomitable spirit. "Sherry was very concerned about being armed with the latest medical treatments available. Crye-Leike Organizes Biggest Distaster Relief Fund-Raiser in Clarksville
Clarksville, Tenn. - Just 10 days after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City, sales associates of Crye-Leike, Realtors' Fort Campbell branch office organized a disaster relief car wash that community officials claim to be the biggest relief fund-raiser in Clarksville. The community rallied together washing over 700 cars and raising over $12,800 in donations for the American Red Cross National Disaster Relief Fund in support of the relief and recovery mission.
Sales associates with Crye-Leike, Realtors were joined by numerous community and civic leaders and groups washing over 100 cars an hour for donations at three areas set up along Fort Campbell Boulevard from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The fund-raiser was held in the parking lot of Crye-Leike as well as in the neighboring parking lots of Am-South Bank and Grandpa's Sporting Goods. Nearly 100 local businesses donated food, goods and services.
After the terrorist attacks, Crye-Leike sales associates in Ft. Campbell felt compelled to organize a fund-raiser to support the disaster relief since their office is located just four miles from the Fort Campbell Army base.
"Every Tuesday, Crye-Leike holds its weekly sales meeting. Our September 11th sales meeting was one we will never forget and one in which our sales associates immediately wanted to do something to support the relief efforts," said Wendy Daly, a Crye-Leike sales associate in Ft. Campbell who spearheaded this fund-raiser, along with Mike McKeethen who also is a Crye-Leike sales associate in the same office. "The event snowballed into a major happening in Clarksville."
The grounds were donned with donated American flags, balloons, fire trucks, city and county police cars and even a life flight helicopter which sold $5 chances to win a helicopter ride around the city.
"The community was so responsive and supportive of our event," said Daly. "The cars were backed up on Fort Campbell Boulevard, but when motorists realized what the traffic jam was all about, they were putting $20 bills in the hands of police directing traffic."
"It was more than just a car wash. It was an American event that brought this community together as one."

Crye-Leike Auctioneer Martin Cummings Raises Over $1 Million for Charities During His Career
Nashville, Tenn. - Ezell-Harding Christian School will be the last charitable group to benefit from veteran auctioneer Martin Cummings' volunteer services. A principal auctioneer with Crye-Leike, Realtors, Mr. Cummings will retire from charity auctions after raising over $1 million during his 28-year- auction career for as many as 100 charities in Middle Tennessee. But, he is quick to add that he will continue with Crye-Leike, Realtors as principal broker, managing and selling real estate in Middle Tennessee as he has done for the past 26 years.
The crowning moment for Mr. Cummings will be the honor of auctioning a quilt handmade by 101-year-old Annie Johnston of Nashville at the school's auction, Sat., October 13, 2001. The auction is part of the school's annual fund-raiser, Fall Festival, which begins at 12:30 p.m.
Mrs. Johnston's most recent handy work, made of the school's colors in crimson and white, is the 20th quilt she has crafted for Ezell-Harding's fund-raiser. Her connection with the school has been her grandchild and great grandchild, both of whom attended the school, as well as a relative on the board of directors. Mrs. Johnston will be 102 years old in January 2002.
"And this is her last!" exclaimed Anita Keith, auction chairman and president of the school's Eagle Support Association. "An interested board member suggested that a price tag of $25,000 be placed on the quilt in hopes of that amount being raised. Plans are to display it at the school in Mrs. Johnston's honor."
Mr. Cummings started doing charity auctions when his daughter attended Ezell-Harding in 5th and 6th grade. Then, she transferred to Mt. Juliet Junior and Senior High Schools where she was a field commander in the school band for her last two years of school.
"Her school band was always in need of financial support for their band trips, so I was glad to help out by holding auctions for the school's fund-raisers," said Mr. Cummings. "I have been doing charity auctions for not-for-profits ever since and never charge them for my services." He said that his latest charity auction was for Ducks Unlimited, a dinner and auction, which raised over $32,000 in one night.
Crye-Leike, Realtors entered the Nashville real estate market in September 1992. "I remember that day, Labor Day," recalls Mr. Cummings. "Harold Crye, the co-founder of Crye-Leike in Memphis, shook my hand and recruited me as his first agent in Nashville to run the company's first Nashville branch office at 1285 North Mt. Juliet Road in Mt. Juliet, the first firm licensed under Crye-Leike."
Today, Crye-Leike of Nashville, Inc. has 20 branch and franchise offices in nine counties in Middle Tennessee with sales associates in the Greater Nashville area who currently total over 800. Crye-Leike of Nashville, Inc. recorded 7,491 units sold in 2000, representing a sales volume of $1.08 billion.
To become a practicing auctioneer, the Tennessee Auction Commission requires auction agents to apprentice for two years under a master auctioneer. Mr. Cummings has had over twenty auction agents apprentice under him during his career.
According to school estimates, Mr. Cummings has raised over $250,000 for Ezell-Harding Christian School during the past 20 years he has conducted auctions for their school's annual fund-raiser, reports Mrs. Keith. Parents have expressed concern of Mr. Cummings' announcement that this would be his last auction for Ezell-Harding Christian School as well as other charity auctions.
"This may be the last charity auction I am responsible for, but I am not letting them down," said Mr. Cummings. "I am turning it over to the younger group." His son-in-law, Brandon Gunnels, a master auctioneer who is also affiliated with Crye-Leike, Realtors, "will follow in my footsteps," he says, while Mr. Cummings' daughter, Rachel, who is married to Brandon, is currently enrolled in real estate school to become Brandon's real estate assistant.

Crye-Leike to Serve as Major Sponsor of St. Jude Benefit
Memphis, Tenn. - Crye-Leike, the largest real estate company in Tennessee and the Mid-South, has committed to a major sponsorship toward the construction of what will be the world's largest gingerbread house. The gingerbread house, which will stand five and one-half stories high or 57 feet, 3 inches tall, will benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
The gigantic gingerbread house is being built by Roger Pelcher who holds the current record for a 52 footer he built in Des Moines, Iowa in 1990. That one took 2,200 sheets of gingerbread and 1,650 pounds of icing.
Crye-Leike representatives were on hand at the official "ground baking" ceremonies on Tues., Sept. 4, 2001 in Memphis, Tenn. when construction began for this year's planned record breaker. Construction is expected to be completed by mid-November, in time to serve as Santa Claus' official headquarters. The gingerbread house, which is located in the Center Court area of Wolfchase Galleria, a 1.1 million square foot shopping center, is projected by officials to be recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The house will display around 2,500 sheets of gingerbread, 4,000 pounds of royal icing, along with about 3,600 pounds of chocolate on the chimney - not to mention hundreds of pounds of peanut brittle, assorted Christmas candy and colored popcorn.
Donation packages of gingerbread sheet pans are for sale to benefit St. Jude. The packages range in price from $25 to $100. Those making donations will receive special commemorative items as well as tickets to special events. For more information on the sheet pans, call 901/372-9409.
Pelcher, who learned to make gingerbread houses from his father, owns Unique Ideas, Inc., based in Lakeland, Tenn, and is general manager of Chickasaw Country Club in Memphis. His Memphis project will be his third record-setting gingerbread house. He built his first house in 1983 for the Stouffer Hotel in Mobile, Alabama. It was 13 feet tall and was the original Guinness record. Construction photos can be seen on his Web site at www.worldrecordgingerbreadhouse.com.
After someone else built a 31-footer, Pelcher eclipsed that mark with the 52-footer. He says this will be his last project. "The fact that this project could help benefit St. Jude got me going again," he said.
"The sponsorship of a gingerbread house was a perfect match for Crye-Leike, being a full service real estate company with over 50 percent in residential sales," said Dick Leike, co-founder and co-owner of Crye-Leike. "Our company always looks for ways to support the communities in which we serve. Crye-Leike is proud to be a part of this spectacular fund-raising effort for the children at St. Jude."

Children's playhouse to be built and auctioned for charity by Crye-Leike
Nashville, Tenn. - With the holiday season upon us and parade fever in the air, ever wondered what happens with most parade floats after the parade? Most are torn down, left as only fading memories in the eyes of its spectators. A few others are stored away, refreshed and reused for next year's parade. The Crye-Leike, Realtors' float in the Hendersonville Chamber of Commerce's December 10, 2000 parade will be turning an old tradition into a novel idea.
The sales associates at Crye-Leike, Realtors in Hendersonville, Tenn. felt in order for them to participate in Hendersonville Chamber of Commerce's parade that they should use their time and materials wisely. They have planned to auction their specially-designed and custom crafted float after the parade on December 16 at Crye-Leike's Hendersonville branch office, located at 383 Johnny Cash Parkway.
To compliment the parade's theme, Home for the Holidays, Crye-Leike sales associates chose to build a children's Victorian playhouse, valued at over $ 1,000 in building materials.
The 8 ft. by 8 ft. playhouse will be constructed on Friday, December 8, 2000 from
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. by sales associates of Crye-Leike, Realtors at New Hope Construction's warehouse, located at 40-E Industrial Park Drive in Hendersonville. On Saturday, December 9, Crye-Leike sales associates will decorate the float for the parade after the playhouse has been positioned on a flat bed truck, donated by Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse.
"Proceeds from the auctioned playhouse will be donated to Crye-Leike of Hendersonville's favorite charity, New Hope Construction," said Jan Page, managing broker of Crye-Leike's Hendersonville office. "Russell Meade, founder and president of New Hope Construction, is a sales associate of our office. We have came to know and respect his relentless mission of providing low income families with affordable housing."
"New Hope Construction is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization that provides low-cost preframed house packages to churches and other 501c(3) organizations like Habitat for Humanity and Partner's Inc.," said Meade. " We design our own plans and, with the help of volunteers, the preframed walls are constructed at our Hendersonville facility and then shipped to the building site. Thanks to Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse, who is a major supplier and donor of building materials and equipment, New Hope Construction's services now extend into Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee."
For every 10 house packages New Hope Construction sells, they donate the 11th house package. "We have very strict requirements and guidelines for the organization receiving the donated house package. The recipient family's income must be at or below the poverty level and not able to qualify for housing through an existing program within their current state of residency," Meade said.
The Hendersonville Chamber of Commerce Parade will be held on Sunday, December 10 at 2 p.m. The parade will begin at Drakes Creek Park, proceed to East Main and conclude at Executive Park Drive. Over 100 entries are expected and Crye-Leike, Realtors was their first entry, reports chamber officials.
